Are any readers with a background in philosophy or economics keen to collaborate on academic work with me?
So I’m in a somewhat unusual situation, in that my Ph.D thesis. in progress is on the philosophy of welfare economics, but I’m in the political economy department. That makes it difficult to find collaborators. If any of my readers are philosophers or economists interested in:
Interpersonal utility comparison
The values in science debate and its intersection with welfare economics
The cardinality of utility
Welfare economics and democracy
Welfare economics and socialism
Philosophical issues in welfare economics generally
Who would be interested in collaborating, let me know.
On the above issues, I already have something of an academic standard written, and would be keen to collaborate with potential co-authors, with the aim of publication.
I am also broadly interest in a few topics including:
The simulation theory
Conceptual engineering
Experimental Philosophy
Intuitions and why they matter
Subjectivist ethical anti-realism
The philosophy of AI (including the control problem)
Analytic Marxism
Socialist political philosophy
The philosophy of psychiatry (especially autism & OCD)
Metaphilosophy
Mercy and punishment
The concept of welfare
The relationship between the aesthetic and the ethical
Trying to tackle “the big questions” (meaning of life etc.) in an Analytic framework
Existentialism
Any philosophical topics intimately connected to the ideas I’ve defended and expounded in blog posts around these parts
Longtermism and effective altruism [both as objects of critique and elaboration]
If you’d like to work on any of the above topics, let me know! If you think I might be interested in something outside these areas, please, by all means make a proposal! As you can probably tell by my blog, I am already interested in a greater breadth than is healthy for me, and there’s a lot I left out of the list for reasons of space.
