As per my previous post, I’m thinking of trying my hand at writing some Star Wars fan fic on this blog as a different angle from which to explore. Here’s a teaser.
If you’d have seen it for yourself, seen it, and not some slowed down holo-recording, your primary observation about the duel between the Galactic Chancellor and the Jedi Grandmaster would have been the speed. You might have gathered that a small figure with a green saber was fighting a tall human with a red saber, but that would have been about the extent of what you could judge. Shockwaves rippled out- splintering furniture. Lightning scorched the walls and it was not without its thunder- the sound of the clash was unlike any other, punctuated by the alien whoosh of plasma blades.
The force is a curious thing. It meddles in events, but only rarely does it insist. Of course it arranges events after they happen, lines them up into patterns that look foreordained post facto, yet even moments of great consequence it will most often let fall as they may. A slight deviation of Yoda’s blade into a more aggressive vector- almost unintentional, a different angle of deflection by Sidious, the compounding of changes. A green blade comes down and splits the Chancellor’s cranium even as a red blade rises up, up through the Grandmaster’s heart. Palpatine’s body falls as Yoda vanishes and his robes drift to the ground.
There is a disturbance in the force.
