I publish things here. I’ll link to them on Reddit. People will read them (between 200 and 4000 typically). Then I’ll forget about them. It’s a weirdly alienated path of intellectual production that’s grating me. My creeping middle age urges me to make an inventory.
A while ago- near the start of the pandemic- I put out a book of my collected essays. I just tallied it up, and was gratified to see that it had a little under 7000 downloads.
Since I published that book though, I’ve written as many essays again as were in that book, moreover, I think they’re of better quality.
It’s time to make another book.
I have highfalutin plans for this one. Whereas the previous book was pure anthology with light editing, this one will feature anything up to complete rewrites. As a result, it will have to be more selective in what it includes. I also want to create a more visually impressive piece, and- God willing- the layout won’t just be a Google docs turned into a PDF.
I’ll be putting Google ads up for this one. Not to worry- like the previous book, it will be free, but I’ll ask for donations from those willing just to recoup the advertising costs. Any money raised above that will be put into even more advertising.
I’ll be targeting 20,000 downloads. If I hit that, my plan is to try and parley that into a pitch for an IRL publishing deal, but if I miss out on that- well that’s okay.
As always, I’ll ask people to enjoy it to pass it on when it comes out. But before it comes out, you can help in the comments by letting me know what essays and writing you’d like to see make it in.
If you’d like to be a proofreader, sound off in the comments.
