I don't think this is the main objection to comparisons of happiness scores. For me the biggest issue is something much more basic: what if the same score means different things to different groups. If a Dane and a Frenchman both rate their happiness as 7/10, does this really mean they're equally happy, or are cultural expectations playing a role in how they answer survey questions.
